Position Overview

The Eastern Division, Train Collectors Association is seeking a Volunteer Cybersecurity Analyst to help support the security of our websites, online accounts, technology systems, and other digital resources.

You do not need professional cybersecurity experience to apply. If you have an interest in cybersecurity, information technology, networking, systems administration, or web technology and would like an opportunity to gain practical experience while supporting a nonprofit organization, we would be happy to work with you.

This is a flexible volunteer position and an opportunity to develop real-world cybersecurity experience while helping protect the technology used by the Eastern Division.

Responsibilities

• Assist with reviewing the security of Eastern Division websites and online systems.
• Help identify potential vulnerabilities and security concerns.
• Assist with WordPress security, updates, and monitoring.
• Review account access and administrative permissions.
• Assist with implementing and maintaining multi-factor authentication and other security measures.
• Help improve password and credential-management practices.
• Assist with monitoring for suspicious activity or potential security incidents.
• Manage Division Phishing Testing System
• Manage Division Email Spam Filtering
• Help maintain cybersecurity documentation and procedures.
• Assist with security awareness and recommendations for Eastern Division volunteers.
• Review plugins, applications, and online services for potential security concerns.
• Assist the Information Technology Team with security-related projects as needed.

Qualifications

No professional cybersecurity experience is required.

We are primarily looking for someone who:

• Has an interest in cybersecurity, information technology, networking, or systems administration.
• Is willing to learn new technologies and security practices.
• Can handle access to systems and information responsibly.
• Can communicate and collaborate with other volunteers.
• Is detail-oriented and willing to investigate potential issues.
• Has basic computer and technology skills.

Experience with WordPress, networking, cPanel, Google Workspace, vulnerability scanning, identity management, or other cybersecurity tools is helpful but not required.

Time Commitment

This is a flexible volunteer position. Workload will vary depending on current technology projects, security needs, and upcoming events. Work can be completed remotely and scheduled around the volunteer's availability.
