Position Overview

The Eastern Division: Train Collectors Association is seeking a Volunteer Graphic Designer to help create visual content supporting our events, programs, social media channels, website, and other communications.

You do not need professional graphic design experience to apply. If you have an interest in design, creativity, communications, or marketing and would like an opportunity to gain experience while supporting a nonprofit organization and the train-collecting hobby, we would be happy to work with you.

This is a flexible volunteer position and an opportunity to build a portfolio while creating materials that will actually be used by the organization.

Responsibilities

• Create graphics for social media, events, announcements, volunteer recruitment, and other Eastern Division activities.
• Develop promotional materials for the York Train Fair and other Division programs.
• Assist with posters, digital advertisements, website graphics, and informational materials.
• Work with Eastern Division leadership and the Social Media & Marketing Team to turn ideas into finished designs.
• Help maintain a reasonably consistent visual identity across Eastern Division communications.
• Resize and adapt graphics for Facebook, Instagram, websites, email, and other platforms.
• Assist with special design projects as needed.

Qualifications

No professional experience is required.

We are primarily looking for someone who:

• Has an interest in graphic design, communications, marketing, or digital media.
• Is creative and willing to experiment with new ideas.
• Is willing to learn.
• Can communicate and collaborate with other volunteers.
• Can complete agreed-upon projects within reasonable timeframes.
• Has basic computer skills.

Experience with Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar software is helpful but not required.

Time Commitment

This is a flexible volunteer position. Workload will vary depending on upcoming events and projects. Most work can be completed remotely and scheduled around the volunteer's availability.
