Meet Etiquette & Tips

Whether you’re a first-time attendee or a seasoned York veteran, following proper etiquette helps ensure a positive experience for everyone at the Eastern Division York Train Meet. The following tips and guidelines will help you navigate the Meet with confidence, courtesy, and success.

General Etiquette

Be courteous and respectful:
This is a member-to-member meet. Please treat all vendors, volunteers, and fellow attendees with kindness and patience.

Ask before touching:
Always ask permission before handling any trains, accessories, or other merchandise on a table. Many items are rare, delicate, or valuable.

Keep aisles clear:
Do not block walkways, especially with carts, strollers, or groups. Let others pass freely and safely.

Badge must be visible at all times:
Your official TCA badge is your entry pass. Wear it clearly and proudly. Guests must be registered and badged as well.

Buying & Selling Tips

Bring cash:
Many sellers prefer or only accept cash. While some may accept cards or digital payments, it’s best to be prepared with small bills.

Know what you’re looking for:
Make a list of desired items, road names, or road numbers. Bring measurements if you’re buying accessories or layout materials.

Don’t delay on rare finds:
If you see a unique item you’ve been searching for, don’t wait. It might not be there when you return.

Navigating the Meet

Wear comfortable shoes:
The Meet spans multiple large halls. Expect to walk several miles over the course of the day.

Review the Hall Maps and Schedule:
Plan your day using the posted maps and schedules. Know which halls open and close first.

Visit each hall:
Member halls and dealer halls both offer treasures. Don’t skip one, assuming the other has everything.

Take breaks:
There are food vendors and designated rest areas on site. Stay hydrated and take time to rest your feet.

Photography & Video

Respect photo policies:
While photos are generally allowed, always ask permission before photographing a seller’s table or merchandise.

Final Tips

Be early, but be patient:
The morning rush can be crowded. Doors open promptly as scheduled—no need to push or rush in.

Strike up a conversation:
The York Meet is a great place to meet fellow collectors and enthusiasts. Don’t be afraid to ask about a layout, a model, or a story.

Follow the rules and signage:
All meet policies are in place for safety, fairness, and enjoyment. Please follow posted signs and volunteer directions.
